in America the idea of jews being not that oppressed is so heavily rooted in christian centricity, because people just view jews as white protochristians. american society is so heavily christian centric and rooted in christianity, christians (both culturally and religious) 1/x
simply just dont have the ability to understand how much christianity affects society, and how much of american culture and society non Christians cannot relate to and feel ostracized from. and for jews if you aren't white or ashkenazi, it becomes 20 times harder 2/x
because the representation of jewish culture that non jews have is almost entirely white ashkenazim. and non ashkenazim have this experience twice over of, once being a non christian in wider american society and being non ashkenazi in an ashkecentric society 3/x
like if you aren't a non ashkenazi jew, you cannot comprehensible how much of American jewish society only relates to ashkenazim.
and although jews may be able to conform somewhat to american society and feel those affects less, it's a direct result of years of assimilation. we've lost so much of our culture to christianity, a trend i'm certain is felt throughout other non christians in America
of course there are many other things that contribute to the idea that jews aren't really oppressed in America, but this is one that I dont think we talk abt nearly as much as we should
