Today, because I woke up rather sad, after sleeping badly, & missing our kids after months apart, my husband took us off to see an unbelievably beautiful, ancient, mesmerizing tree, which is reputed to be 2,500k years old.
So what, you may say?
Well, it was so special.
1/
It put all the frantic, grubby concerns of this time, which constantly crowd my mind, into perspective.
Just imagine....all those years!
All those people; Messiahs, Kings, Queens, despots, usurpers, courtiers, dirty intriguing politicians that we see as “history” seemed
2/
so i significant, so small, so petty.
Instead, I felt around me all the beautiful people who didn’t make the history books, right next to me. Those legions of people, the ordinary people who were just like me and you.
All the plots, affairs, deceptions,
3/
betrayals, intrigues, murderous schemes & lies of the narcisstiic, ambitious lunatics who spoil life for the rest of us fell away.
In that moment, as we stood, awed, in the shade of that ancient, still living tree, they seemed meaningless.
They are as dross.
Love is what we
4/
are. Without it, we are as nothing, our families, our children, our grandchildren, our beloved friends, are us, are our hearts, they matter.
That is what reigns supreme over the centuries.
Past, present, enduring love.
5/
Many will sneer and laugh, but I have to believe love WILL prevail in the end.
Just my view, from my foolish old heart, FWIW.
