Thread: Activating Flow Through Stillness

A Non-Conventional Approach to High Performance
🔑 Questions we’ll be exploring in this thread... ❓

- What is the flow state?

- Can flow be entered at will?

- How can stillness activate flow?

Let’s begin...
1st, what is the flow state? đŸ’«

Flow is a mode of being where you’re completely absorbed in/by whatever it is you’re focusing on.

It is a state of energized attention, blissful enjoyment, and heightened creative capability.

It is the optimal state for high performance.
💭 Think about it like this:

Focus is normally like a spotlight.

Flow is what happens when it becomes a laser-beam.

And because the equation for manifestation looks something like...

Energy + focus + action = creation

Flow is the best state for actively shaping your reality.
So, if you’re someone who...

⛅ Isn’t afraid to dream big
👁 Is driven by a clear vision
đŸ”„ Actively creates their life

Then knowing how to access flow is paramount.

The more you’re able to enter this state at will, the more powerful and capable you will become.
This leads us into our 2nd question...

Can flow be entered at will? đŸ’«

I absolutely believe it can be.

In fact, I KNOW it can be.

Because I (as well as many others) have learned how to do so.

Make no mistake...

Flow is a skill.
First, you have to understand how flow is triggered.

Flow exists between two realms:

âšȘ Competence

⚫ Pressure

What’s this mean?

Your skills are capable enough to accomplish what’s in front of you, but JUST BARELY.

In other words?

You can do it, but it’s a challenge.
Why is this the optimal state?

It’s simple...

If it’s too easy, you won’t be engaged by it.

If it’s too hard, you won’t be able to accomplish it.

That’s why knowing your “sweet spot” between these realms is so important.

Another term for this?

Leaning just beyond your edge.
Now all of this talk of too easy, too hard...

Competence and pressure...

What does it all imply?

It implies action, and action implies movement.

So how exactly does stillness fit into all of this?

After all, it seems counterintuitive, right?

đŸ€”

It does, but it isn’t.
This leads us to our 3rd and final question...

How can stillness activate flow? đŸ’«

Well, I think it has something to do with this...

Flow cannot be activated WITHOUT stillness.

In fact, I’d go as far as to say that flow is stillness DISGUISED as high performance action...
💭 Think about it...

What happens to a wave once it vibrates fast enough?

It appears to be still.

Action through flow works in a similar way.

The mind and body are synchronized.

The focus so involved, that everything outside of the focus falls away.

Stillness.
It’s a lot like meditation, actually.

You know what I’m talking about...

🎼 That challenging level in a video game

đŸ’Ș About to hit your PR in the gym

🎹 Being completely absorbed by a creative project

You’ve almost certainly experienced it before...
Your thoughts & feelings aren’t going crazy in these moments, right?

It’s the opposite, this almost instinctual, intuitive realm of action.

Everything is calm, silent...

Everything is still.

And in this stillness, you connect with something deeper, something more...
So how do you achieve this?

How can you consciously move into the flow state?

Well, one practice seems obvious...

🧘 Meditation.

Meditation is the art of being still, after all.

However, there’s one particular meditation I feel is highly conducive to flow in particular...
It’s called Trataka.

It’s a type of focused meditation, where you keep your attention on a single point.

Usually, a candle flame 🕯

This brings you into this kind of trance-like state that, in my experience, is HIGHLY conducive to entering the flow state.

Try it for one week.
Simply expanding your awareness and deepening your understanding around flow will make you more effective at accessing it.
