1. Tonight the GOP will solidify what was a 30 yr strategic plan to put into place a conservative majority on SCOTUS & esp the fed appeals courts. Few political efforts have been more successful, though its imp to note the things the party sacrificed for this effort. Those began
2. before Trump descended his golden escalator to throw American politics into turmoil. It began when @senatemajldr assumed the role of Sen. Majority Leader- a role he took to achieve 1 main goal- total ideological domination of the fed courts. From keeping Obama from filling
3. vacancies by abusing the filibuster to the point where Reid eliminated it, taking the unprecedented step of refusing to conduct Advise & Consent for Merrick Garland, to supporting Trump-a man McConnell knew (and knows) to be a security threat to the country, M.M. let nothing
4. stand in his way of his pursuit of putting into place a federal court system that *could* destroy America as we know it. It goes far beyond abortion. This Fed Society bench will now seek to push the U.S. away from the legal paradigm its operated under, really since the 1930s.
5. It is far more reaching than abortion or voting rights. This Court will be a radical Court-and at complete odds with American public opinion. That's why, my belief is that after they get to work shredding some of the fundamental rights people hold dear- support for court
6. reform will be robust. I also fear we're going to see a lot of cases get overruled by SCOTUS on appeal up from the appeals court- where Trump (fed society radicals) have a strong presence now, but nothing like this 6-3 scotus majority.

8. Big business is going to have a very good time of it: they'll be able to pollute, steal, cheat, and even kill easier than they can right now. If Ds want to mitigate the damage they'll have to create an electioneering strategy that prioritizes this issue, as the GOP did
9. previously, and devote a ton of grassroots activism to the courts. For decades they've had the luxury of the law being in their side but now there is a group of radicals who will argue a different interpretation should apply. They will shrug their shoulders and say "its
10. Its unfortunate that the Constitution provides no language for ____ but it's just not in there so gay marriage can't exist." They'll do what Roberts did when he invalidated Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act- salve his conscience by pointing out there's a legislative remedy.
11. But they know there isn't. They know Congress is broken. That Trump has no pre-existing conditions plan. They ideologically wouldn't support it anyway! So, this 6-3 hole is the bottom. Getting out of it will be hard. But the 1st step is this election.
