Dear Scholarship Applicants;

I am very sure you know getting scholarship is hard work. You need to put those efforts and then pray. I have reviewed tons of essays and I like to point out some of the issues in essay writing and ways to improve.

I. How you tell your story: Here is one of the most important things to keep in mind. I know you all have great story to tell BUT what makes the difference between YOU and OTHERS is how well you can tell your story (communicating effectively). I have read some essays
with this problem. Even if you have all the achievements but can’t communicate that clearly with implications——then it’s an issue. Don’t just put everything you have done in your essays: think deeply and talk about their implications (as related to your Grad school pursuits
and long term goals. Remember you are competing for limited spots. So, you should write to WIN.

2. Structure of the essay: I am not one to make anyone feel bad BUT I think it’s better to have good presentation when writing (it will help when you get to Grad school).
it’s really perturbing reading essays without any structure. For instance, STAR approach is a good way, put a situation forward, talk about the tasks (what you are required to achieve), then action and lastly results. This way, your essay will be interesting to read with a good
flow. Infact, I have sometimes found several orphan statements in paragraphs of essay; I mean having points that are not relevant to that line or paragraph (not connected to anything before and after it). You need to have a logical flow in your writing to avoid confusion
3. Proofreading: There are many reasons why you should avoid grammatical blunders and spelling mistakes in your essays. It sends the wrong signal to the panel about your intellectual capacity, attention to detail and preparation for grad school. I think some scholars
are now using premium grammarly, pro writing aid and other good softwares for proofreading contents. When you have done all these, then send to scholars and friends to take a look again and help you submit great essays for your applications.

All the best guys
