Here's a thread of Black creators and showrunners who got their start as writers on a Black tv show.

Beginning with @MaraBrockAkil. The creator of Girlfriends, The Game, Being Mary Jane, and Love Is started as a writer on shows like Moesha and The Jamie Foxx Show.

. @GPBmadeit, known for films such as Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, and Beyond the Lights, recently made history by becoming the first Black woman to direct a live-action comic-book movie with The Old Guard. She started her career as a writer on A Different World.

Before becoming the showrunner of Insecure and the director of Uncorked, @The_A_Prentice was a part of the Girlfriends writer's room. He's been capturing both the beautiful and messy parts of adult friendships for over a decade.

Regina Hicks ( @reginaYhicks) is another Girlfriends and Insecure alum, who now serves as the showrunner for the upcoming Netflix show The Upshaws, starring Mike Epps, Kim Fields, and Wanda Sykes. Regina started her career in the writer's room of Sister, Sister.

Speaking of Sister, Sister, both the creator of the show Kim Bass and one of the lead writers @larrywilmore (creator of The Bernie Mac Show, co-creator of Insecure/Grownish), started as writers on In Living Color. Shoutout to Keenen Ivory Wayans.

It's safe to say that Mara birthed shows that helped launch the writing careers of many. Kenya Barris ( @funnyblackdude) was both a writer for Girlfriends and The Game. He then co-created America's Next Top Model, the Black-ish franchise, and most recently #blackAF.

Before becoming an executive producer on @DearWhitePeople, Yvette Lee Bowser (Creator of Living Single) was a writer and producer on shows like A Different World, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, and Half & Half.

And last but not least, Eunetta T. Boone is best known as the creator of One on One, but she started as a writer on Fresh Prince, Living Single, and The Parent 'Hood.
