If you “don’t know” that being a racist and ableist is wrong by the time you’re in high school, it’s because you’ve been taught that those things are good and right. This situation goes so far beyond “kids can be cruel” and people “grow out of it”
The kind of hatefulness Miller showed requires WAY more than a court ordered apology, more than even a sincere personal apology to be branded as a “learning experience.” If you’re not actively making the lives of Black & disabled people better, you have not “grown from it”
Regardless of any work he could have done (which it’s clear he hasn’t, except for working on not getting caught publicly being a bigot), Isaiah and his family have not forgiven him. That’s the end of the line. They don’t feel he’s worthy of their forgiveness so he’s not.
