Villanueva says that deputies were confused about @josie_huang because she was standing near protesters and recording LASD. He offers a somewhat equivocal apology “to what she went through.”
Villanueva denies that deputies have fired indiscriminately into crowds in response to individual acts of violence, despite significant footage to the contrary.

He compares LASD’s record to LAPD’s. “We were rather restrained by comparison.”
Villanueva, on the protests in South LA: “When you show up at one of my stations wearing football gear at midnight, you’re not there to protest.”

He claims that locals were displeased with protests. In fact, residents have spoken in support of the protesters.
Glory, a woman who has protested LASD, describes their conduct as “criminal & fascistic.” Says that protesters wear protective gear because of LASD misuse of force. Says that she was illegally detained and that deputies photographed her face with personal phones.
Villanueva doesn’t answer a question for evidence of “outside agitators”
Villanueva says the department must make distinctions between “established media” and independent/social media journalists.
