Although often moments of personal tragedy, I love when one of our forms reminds us that, behind the rich tapestry of historical observations that give context to today's climate, are beautiful humans with human challenges. Transcription below (1/4).
December 1946, Arriba, Colorado. "No records were kept at Arriba ... owing to being absent throughout the month, having been called to Cincinnati, Ohio Nov 14th [on] account [of] illness of our son Glenn ... and Dayton, Ohio to be with two sons and their families ... "
"No one at Arriba would look after the weather station ... Mr. Kelly would have kept moisture record but was prevented owing to the illness and death of Mrs. Kelly latter part of November."
There is merit in touching yesterday's data with today's, but there is beauty in observing yesterday's observers, today. Blanket appreciation for the tens of thousands of fellow citizens who underpin today's understanding, because they wrote stuff down.
