1. I'm having difficulty reconciling your repeated claim @DCPSChancellor that "this is the least disruptive plan" w the facts: 1. Prk-5 teachers will be moved around to teach grades & subjects they have no exp. with... https://twitter.com/tiafree202/status/1320755635244441601
2. whether remaining virtual or in-person, thousands of DCPS elementary students will likely lose the teacher w/whom they've formed a relationship
3. Thousands of elementary students and teachers who remain virtual may go from a class of approx. 20 to an online class capped at 40 🤯
4. An unknown # of C.O. employees + secondary staff & admin involuntary reassigned to serve in elementary CARE classrooms. Most have no experience with young children under any circumstances, let alone under pandemic conditions where they have to keep themselves & the kids safe
5. Taking essential staff & admin from secondary schools is going to be devastating (no other word for it) In W1, @CardozoEC & @CHECDC, are each losing between 17-20 staff each, a budget hit of approx $1mil...
7. Taking the support staff from @CHECDC & @CardozoEC, together serving approx 25K students-almost all ELL, At-risk, immigrant + a high # of students w IEPs -- will both be forced to shut down their student support centers w no plan for how to make up that support
8. I could go on, but suffice to say that this plan will be disruptive to almost EVERY single DCPS stakeholder. And I haven't even gotten into the safety issues associated with returning in person before you have met @WTUTeacher safety demands.
9. In the wise words of the @Ward1EdCouncil chair @BeckyCReina
"Only 7,000 DCPS students will be offered seats for in-person learning in this limited reopening plan, but due to significant staffing changes it will disrupt the learning of each and every student in DCPS schools...
10....including the more than 40,000 students who will remain in virtual learning, the majority of whom even before the COVID pandemic qualify as "At-Risk."
11. My inbox is overflowing w testimonials I've received from W1 school leaders, educators, staff, families, even a Central Office employee who express just how many ways this plan will disrupt, endanger, ruin, their schools, their health, their children's learning & safety.
12. I will share them all w you @DCPSChancellor, @DMEforDC, @MayorBowser, @councilofdc . But there's still time to do the do the right thing, listen to those impacted by this clearly reckless plan. #HaltReOpeningNow
