YIL about Constance Baker Motley.
She was the the first Black woman appointed to the Federal Judiciary.
She went Columbia University Law School, clerked for Thurgood Marshall and was assistant attorney in Brown v. Board of Education.
And she successfully argued two Memphis civil rights cases in front of the Supreme Court, Turner v. City of Memphis, and Watson v. City of Memphis.
The former desegregated Dobbs House restaurants at the Memphis airport.
The latter defeated "a [Memphis] plan to desegregate all recreational facilities in Memphis over a 12-year period by requiring immediate desegregation,..."
"...and which warned that the period of transition from segregated to desegregated schools under Brown v. Board of Education must be accelerated;"
The immediate desegregation meant that the Mid-South Coliseum and the Liberty Bowl, while designed for integration by their architects, would never have segregation otherwise enforced by Memphis and Shelby County.
And never be touched by the evil hand of Jim Crow.
