/N Our new article published in Clinical Infectious Diseases ( @IDSAInfo) on role of routine asymptomatic testing for #COVID19 in healthcare settings. We find twice weekly testing of all healthcare workers/patients can reduce outbreaks and transmission. https://academic.oup.com/cid/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cid/ciaa1383/5939986
/N In this analysis, led by @elizabethTchin and @benqhuynh ( @Stanford), we simulated a healthcare setting and assigned a risk of infection from SARS-CoV-2. We tested various frequencies (daily to monthly) of routine PCR testing of all persons, regardless of symptoms or exposure.
/N We find that twice weekly testing (or weekly at minimum) is needed in most high-risk environment, with ongoing community transmission of COVID. This is similar to other excellent work on COVID testing frequency from @RWalensky and @ADPaltiel.
/N Limitations include resources/logistical challenges of frequent testing. Although recent examples with reopening college campuses and professional sports (e.g. NBA) that have implemented this successfully. Routine testing in hospital workers and patients may be next.
/N Appreciate support from this team including @SanjaybMDPhD @Lloyd_Chapman_ and Matt Murrill (too cool for twitter), and of course co-lead authors @elizabethTchin and @benqhuynh mentioned earlier.
