@FortuinBrindley: I have not chosen the UK, the UK chose me: You must not be shy putting yourself out there, and put forward your achievements while recognising your weaknesses (or areas for improvement) #StudyAbroad2020 #AfricaWeekatEd
@AdomOpare : I chose the UK because 1. I did not need to write any exam, 2. I had some safety net and previous experience of studying there, and 3. Length of Study. To apply for Scholarships: You need to capitalise on your lived experiences.
#StudyAbroad2020 #AfricaWeekatEd
@AdomOpare 1. Don't limit your options 2. Listen to people but do your research 3. When going for a PhD, build your support system #StudyAbroad2020 #AfricaWeekatEd
@AfroGradChat 's AJ Asomani-Adem sharing her tips from studying both in the UK and the US.

#StudyAbroad2020 #AfricaWeekatEd

@adomopare :1. Start early, 2. Know the deadlines and requirements; 3. Build good relations with your references (Nurture professional relationships: don't just start when you need it 😊)4. Position your statement for the scholarship you 5. Be truthful 6. Embrace your uniqueness
AJ Asomani-Adem: 1. Apply early (at least 9 months to a year in advance) 2. Match yourself to the funder (read their mission statement and different grants and state how you fit) 3. Make use of critical feedback(have trusted people read your work) @AfroGradChat

Conversation 2 starting now with @nickjrowland ( @MCFScholarsEd ) , @nickjrowland ( @Mo_IbrahimFdn ) and VickyReed and Cheikh Yaya Dia ( @CheveningFCDO @UKinSenegal ) #StudyAbroad2020 #AfricaWeekatEd
@nickjrowland : 1. for the @MCFScholarsEd , you need to apply to the #scholarsprogramme first, then, we support you apply to the uni. You need to demonstrate financial need, have a strong application with a golden thread; also show how your studies will benefit your community
@AngelicaSOAS ( @Mo_IbrahimFdn ): lack of funding for #AfricanStudents to study in the UK is a reality, there is room for improvement. We started with Masters scholarships, but now we are funding PhD scholarships only (1 PhD scholarship / year)
@AngelicaSOAS : for the @Mo_IbrahimFdn PhD funding (on #Governance & #Development in #Africa), you need to secure an offer letter first, and then apply for a scholarship. More information here: https://www.soas.ac.uk/gdai/

#StudyAbroad2020 #AfricaWeekatEd
Cheikh Yaya Dia ( @UKinSenegal ) , sharing the experience of #cheveningscholarship funding non-Anglophone students (Senegal, Cabo Verde and Guinea) to study in the UK. Key to understand what #ServantLeadership is about and the need to give back to their communities.
Cheikh Yaya Dia ( @UKinSenegal ) : You can study for the master of your choice, but you need to demonstrate what the added value of studying for that degree is. #chevening
Scholarships are the greatest equalisers, seize this unique opportunity if you can!
