hey, I spent the evening educating myself about what has been going on in poland, & I felt the need to break it down for those who don't know about it yet or didn't care to learn about it, because trust me, just because it doesn't affect you doesn't make it any less of an issue.
so basically, Poland has banned almost all form of abortions. this means that is a woman gets pregnant with a child by mistake, she will have to raise the child and nurture it. the child becomes her and/or the father's responsibility. but this is not okay.
every year there are many cases of unwanted pregnancies in almost all countries. but the polish government thinks that this is some sort of joke.
firstly, there are only 2 birth control pills available in the country, i.e. there are a very limited number of options available for birth control. secondly, abortion is almost banned in the country. you might be wondering what the problem with that is. well.
they don't realise that not letting women abort can be ridiculously harmful for them, in the cases of unwanted pregnancies. what if these women are not mentally ready to have a child?
what if they are still in their teens? can a young teenager handle the responsibility of another human being? at this mere age it's hard for teens to handle their own responsibility.
thirdly, adoption isn't easy in poland. they don't realise how this can also affect those newborns who would be given away to some orphanage where who knows when they will be adopted. i truly cannot imagine how those kids would feel, being abandoned when they were just infants.
at last, I'd like to bring up the fact that poland is completely not in support of the LGBTQ+ community. in fact, on pride march day, some homophobic people burned the gay flag and started screaming homophobic slurs at innocent people, threatening them with violence.
well, that's all i need to say. now the question is, do you think that this issue is important enough to be spread/circulated around social media? even if you cannot directly do anything about it, you can help spread awareness. it really helps.
i will be adding more tweets regarding this issue to this thread.
i'd like to conclude the thread for now by reminding you that just because an issue doesn't affect you doesn't mean it isn't important. thank you.
