It has come to my attention that there the host of the @boneandsickle thinks I plagiarized my show @TheHiddenDjinn from a single episode of his show that aired this past July. I have thoughts.
First of all, I'm sure @boneandsickle is a fine show but I never, in my life, heard of it until someone sent me a link to a recent episode in which the host Al Ridenour made a salty reference to @TheHiddenDjinn alleging we stole his idea.
First of all, Al, no one can steal an idea from a SINGLE EPISODE in July, and pitch, sell, research, script, record, and release a 10 episode show by September. How long was your single episode? How could my entire season be stolen from your SINGLE EPISODE?
Next, @amahnke and I had been in conversation about doing a djinn show for years. I finally did a concept note about it in 2018, here is a screenshot of me sending that note to my agent at the time and a screenshot of when I got the final agreement from iHeart to produce it.
Look at the dates. As you can see, this show took time. A LOT OF TIME. I spent 8 months researching and scripting it and had recorded most of the season by the time your single episode in July had aired. I spent weeks just picking out the music. Screenshot from our basecamp.
And again, well before your single episode about djinn, our production team had slated and begun planning the release of the show.
Plagiarism is a serious allegation. I take that shit seriously Al. I even provide a list of all the sources I use for EACH EPISODE because sourcing is so important to me: https://www.grimandmild.com/thehiddendjinnsources
Finally, I am beside myself at the notion that I, a Muslim who was raised with djinn as part of my faith tradition STOLE THE IDEA FROM YOU, A WHITE MAN, who has absolutely no cultural connection to djinn lore. Al, you owe me and my team an apology.
I worked my ass off to produce @TheHiddenDjinn because I grew up with these stories, bc they mean something to me and to hundreds of millions of others. If you think I need to "steal" ideas, you don't know me. But I do hope in a future episode of @boneandsickle you'll apologize.
