I'll tell you guys a secret- When I first started voice acting... I wasn't very good, haha. After about a year of auditioning and not booking anything, I entered into a four-month dry spell of NO voiceover work. I decided to change that.
I realized I hadn't been taking my career seriously. So I started taking classes. LOTS of classes. I trained in improv, hired an acting coach, took voice acting classes, film and television workshops, auditioning workshops, etc. I read Meisner, Stanislavsky, and Keith Johnstone.
And after about six months of working my tail off, I booked my first named role. But, I didn't stop there. I saw people who had been in the industry for 10+ years still taking workshops, so I decided I'd keep going, too. I still take workshops at least 2 or 3 times per year.
When the pandemic hit, I entered into another dry spell. (Many of us did.) Things are starting to pick back up, but even 7 years into my career, things can still be slow. Everyone has their ups and downs. Don't give up. Use the downtime to grow and then come back swinging!
Every professional has slow periods. So if things are slow for you, or it feels like all of your colleagues are doing better than you, it doesn't make you less of an actor/creative person. We all have our own journies & they will be and should be, very different. You've got this!
