Today we’re hearing from her about her dissertation: Disciplinary Disruption: Exploring the Connection between High School Sanctioning and Black Collegiate Women's Experiences
Dissertation in a tweet: A qualitative study about 5 Black 1st-year collegiate women & their experience with high school discipline. Through this study I was able to explore how these experiences with discipline influenced their collegiate journey - @t_lsteele
Main Takeaway: From exploring experiences with discipline in high school and current collegiate experiences, participants seemed to rely heavily on their disciplinary experiences to inform the way they navigated institutions academically & socially - @t_lsteele
Reason for writing: To be intentionally present with Black girls & women instead of writing in remembrance of their everyday lived experiences. I write to remind Black girls & women that we can exist just as we are & challenge our environments to bend instead of self-sacrifice
Favorite quote from the dissertation: See them, hear them, know them, and allow their stories to be just that, their stories. - @t_lsteele
