There's been a noticeable pivot coming from law enforcement voices lately that they acknowledge they shouldn't be responsible for mental health treatment, so now the solution is a cop and a social worker in field units.
This is still triggering for anyone who has had negative experiences with law enforcement. The whole point is no police for mental health issues. Be mindful as this props up in your community.
The purpose of this pivot is that "reinvestment" would go right back into policing as a way to increase funding for policing. This would also bring those workers within a police union to further entrench that traditional power.
Mental health workers should be their own separate system.
I'm seeing this happen in Washington County and this is what happens when police are entrusted to craft the policy solution rather than the community itself.
