The Shure MV7 came out today. I've got a lot of thoughts with some analysis based on the video reviews that came up this morning. If you're all about audio nerdery, this thread is for you!
The MV7 Highlights:
- "Designed" after the SM7b
- Hybrid Micro-USB + XLR design
- Touch mic controls
- $249
The capsule sits must closer to the top of the mic which means you could get damaging plosives (a la most handheld mics).

Shure uses foam + cage + foam to deaden that at the cost of full range (see EQ plots later in this thread).
I don't know the purpose of making the footprint stubbier with the MV7. It puts your face closer to the mic stand which can really get in the way for on-camera work.
The difference between 2 great mics and a somewhat "meh" mic? This image says it all.

The #1 issue that distinguishes mics like the SM7b or RE20 from a PodMic or even MV7 is the breadth and neutrality of the mic response.

PodMic is significantly behind SM7b and MV7 here.
However, the MV7 does what too many "cheap" mics do, but not nearly as poorly. Boosting presence frequencies.

This makes it a bit more challenging to get that "broadcast-y"-styled sound. Great for speakers looking for a more neutral tone.
All in all, $249 is certainly a fair ask. The real question is, if you don't have the means to EQ/compress/gate your mic, why are you spending this much on a microphone at all?
