Completed Umineko Episode 3 and it was really great. It continues the thrilling mind-games from episode 2 but adds plenty of new elements, terrifying twists around every corner, a new villain and plenty of character development for Beatrice and Eva...
Beatrice is the most interesting character so far. She got plenty of layered development in this episode, but that twist at the end makes some of it uncertain. I don't really know where to stand when it comes to her just as of yet, but there's certainly still a lot more to her.
Battler is probably at his best so far in this episode. He's finally on an equal playground, and for the most part, seems to be winning. His moments are some of the most hype moments in the entire episode. And, God, Battler looks so hot in the manga with his suit unbuttoned.
Eva got a TON of development in this episode which made her a lot more layered and sympathetic. Showing her weak side when she's with Hideyoshi (bless that man), and exploring themes of misogyny through her was super interesting. And, ofc the stuff with her at the end was insane.
Evatrice was a great new villain and a really effective foil. Adore her childish and sadistic attitude, and she really ramped things up during the climax.
We also got introduced to Ronove and Virgilia. Ronove is great, it's Sugita so the voice acting for him was obviously endearing as hell, and I really adore what he added to the main dynamic. Virgilia was cool, but I no longer know how to feel about her lmao.
Ange has a ton of potential. She has that "protect daughter" like energy, she's got style, and there's some really cool and emotionally resonant stuff about grief the story could explore with her.
The other characters get some good moments here and there, like Krauss being a bit more sympathetic of a character now, but the highlight was Rudolf and Kyrie who were badass as hell, and we got an interesting reveal about Kyrie too, so I really wanna see more from her.
The debates between Battler and Beatrice were a lot more interesting and varied in this episode too, and we got introduced to a ton of different concepts and ideas that gets us closer to solving the mystery.
All in all, a really great episode. I'm a bit worried going forward with Beatrice's character, but I'll be patient and hopefully, I like the way they go with her character. I am very excited for episode 4.
