With apologies to everyone who saw some of this already (or maybe multiple times), I'm going to take one more lap with this story for the people who were smart enough to be off Twitter on Sunday.
A lot of time and effort went into it ... https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html

PA sprawls from the Northeast corridor to Appalachia to the Midwest. You can go places where seemingly everyone supports Trump, and a short drive away seemingly no one does.

So often I heard ppl who lost friends or strained family relationships over politics.
One D in a deep red area said most of her friends are Rs, and they had common interests.
But now, “I don’t know how to say this. This really, it’s driven a wedge.” https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html

Said a state Rep from a competitive Erie district:
"You can’t mention anything without it turning into some political rant ... It’s like I’ve never seen in my life and I hope to never see it again. .... I think a lot of people are tired of it.” https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html

Guns were a consistent through line - from Philadelphians worried about crime, to suburban parents who fear school shootings to rural areas where guns are family heirlooms and people hunt all the time.
They were often a stand in for culture/politics: https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html

Trump supporters would talk about tax cuts, immigration, police, but often supporting him was almost a statement of identity - that he 'got' people like them and spoke for them.
That he was tough and "no bullshit" - https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html

“If you insult Trump, you are insulting me" one student told a professor in rural Franklin County: https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html
One of the starkest divides was b/t places evolving and growing vs those losing ppl and industries, and that haven't changed.
“everyone had to leave to big cities for work ... Not everyone goes to a four-year college and gets an engineering degree.” https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/a/pennsylvania-2020-differences-america-democrats-republicans-20201025.html

I'll remember this story a long time. A Philly state Rep took her young boys to a farm to meet a GOP colleague.
The boys came back with souvenirs found on the ground: bullet casings.
In Philly, she said, you don't pick that up. There, "that's evidence."

Lastly - OH MY GOD ITS A BEAUTIFUL STATE.
Go drive around PA. Go to Laurel Highlands. Drive Route 30 between Franklin and Cambria counties. Drive North past Ebensburg.
There's even a Rust Belt wine country in Erie County.
