So what are REITs and why should you invest in them?

Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITS) are companies that own income producing real estate

REITs typically have high dividend returns as they have to pay majority of their revenue in dividends

Great option to add passive income

But beware of their risks

Since they are publicly traded, REITs can fluctuate in price

Weakness in real estate will adversely affect the price

The housing bubble burst in 2007 would be a great example

Be wary of rising interest rates as they could produce poor returns
