Yesterday my 8yo niece asked me who I voted for when I returned from early voting. I replied that voting is very personal and many people won’t like being asked this question, but that I was very proud of my vote because I voted for Joe Biden. She responded that she was proud
of my vote too, even if Joe Biden wasn’t the best president. I asked her what she meant and she said that he just wasn’t the best choice. I don’t know where an 8yo got this idea (I know her gym teacher told all the kids Trump should win, yikes) but still, I was sad.
I explained to her that in 250 years we have never had a “best” president because every single one has been flawed because every single one has been human and humans are inherently flawed. I told her that the “best” candidate will always be the person whose values align with hers
In summation, please stop pushing your apolitical lesser of two evil arguments and causing the only hope our democracy has left into believing that empathy, belief in science and equality, and loving our planet makes you “not the best choice.”
