~*~ BUILD THREAD: 13 Going on 30 Thriller Dress ~*~

Got commissioned by one of my favorite people in the world to make this iconic dress! Banged it out in a weekend so I’m just gonna dump the thread now hahaha

So first off, I definitely took some creative liberties here. The top is actually non-stretch and has hooks in the back, there’s metallic stitching and no rhinestones, it’s not actually a glitter spandex.

I didn’t have her here to test for, nor did I have time to do a mock-up and ship it to her because COVID mail delays on fabric, so I went with full stretchy. The glitter/rhinestones substitute for straight stitching that just wouldn’t have worked here and adds that mid 2000s fun!

Fabrics & rhinestones! Finding a glitter brown spandex was such a pain but I’m really happy with my Australian find haha. Even found Swarovski AB rhinestones that we’re PERFECT and I used the entire gross lol

The striping on this skirt is incredibly stupid. They’re not even, there are apparently insets in it, and everything had to line up. This took gridding out like 5 times to get right!

Flat patterning the top was stupid so I ended up draping it all. Also stretch bias tape is... a ride. Bless my serger for all it’s hard work this weekend

Tacking was SUPER important because the connection points on this dress are so small in places! Also those side stripes were never gonna align during serging if I didn’t.

And the dress on video! It was 2:30 AM so I didn’t have anyone else to help me film so this is it haha

Man I wrote this thread after Definitely Not Enough Sleep and I'm seeing all the typos and nonsense but y'know what, it's fine LOL
