Last Friday we joined the second round of consultations for the upcoming #DisabilityRightsStrategy by @EU_Commission, focus: employment, skills, social protection, social services and independent living. Here`s what we recommended (a thread by @bulljonas2):
First, discussing actions on employment and independent living cannot come without actions on awareness raising. Many persons with psychosocial disabilities face discriminatory practices and attitudes at the workplace, despite the Employment Equality Directive from 2000
For employment:
promote diversity training at the workplace
improve access to technical and vocational training (VET)
strengthen peer support initiatives
strengthen the mandate of Equality Bodies to support those with experiences of discrimination at the workplace

One central issue remains denial of legal capacity, preventing persons from
self-employment
entrepreneurship
business
the development of cooperatives
Thus, @EU_Commission needs to encourage initiatives to dismantle denial of legal capacity in line with Art.12 UNCRPD

Thus, @EU_Commission needs to encourage initiatives to dismantle denial of legal capacity in line with Art.12 UNCRPD
For Independent Living:
develop European Deinstitutionalisation approach with clear targets until 2030 to encourage member states to move to community-based services
setting up a monitoring mechanism to analyse promising practices
promote knowledge-sharing across the EU
