We have truly gone through the looking glass when local councillors say that solving child hunger is the job of ‘others’, ‘outside of government’. Really? We were on track to be spending £40bn a year less on social security before we went into the pandemic. https://twitter.com/patrickjbutler/status/1320481615412416519
Most benefit cuts post-2010 fell on families with children because pensioners were protected. As cuts grew, so did the number of food banks. There is an obvious explanation for growing child hunger. On top of this we have had extra costs and shrinking incomes due to Covid.
