Challenging you this #IntersexAwarenessDay to find intersex advocates from the community, understand what the “I” in LGBTQIA+ stands for, and what human rights intersex people are demanding in their call to end child surgery.
In the toxic mess that is UK 2020, anti-trans advocates shout about the harm of medical interference with trans children (which doesn’t happen) while intersex children are treated as “wrong” and in need of surgical fixing by the health system. This has to end.
Listen, learn, reflect and champion #endintersexsurgery and why #intersexjusticeisracialjustice

An inconclusive list of books I can send you:

💛 ‘The Spectrum of Sex: the Science of Male, Female and Intersex’ by Hida Nieto - an intersex & non-binary activist (£13, paperback)

💜 ‘XOXY - a Memoir’ by Kimberly Zieselman - an intersex woman, mother & activist (£13, paperback)
💛 ‘A Comprehensive Guide to Intersex’ by Jay Kyle Peterson - an intersex artist & writer (£25, paperback, publishes 21 Dec)

💜 ‘Golden Boy’ by Abigail Tarttelin (£9, paperback)

💛 ‘Middlesex’ by Jeffrey Eugenides (£10, paperback)

I can see that most of these works are by...
... white authors. This isn’t a surprise given the power dynamics of our world. I will seek out any books that tell a Black, Brown or QTIPOC intersex perspective. I hope one such book is being written as I type this.
