I completely understand the rage about the France thing and I share the anger and frustration. But let's first learn how to spell "Uyghurs", a Muslim minority who are in concentration camps in China, and boycott Chinese products, before we get worked up about symbolic issues.
Macron is very obviously using this as a re-election ploy to appease the far right of the French electorate. His platitudes about freedom of expression are really laughable compared to what he has been their govt's consistent policy of marginalizing and shutting down Muslims.
But we also have to understand that the terrorist act against that teacher is inexcusable, and only ends up reaffirming racist and Islamophobic dogma in France and abroad. Instead of starting conversation and dialogue, it caused people to completely shut off their minds to it.
I don't mind a boycott, in fact it is one of the most powerful forms of the freedom of expression, expressing with your $. And it is really funny that France, the so-called "champions of freedom", are saying boycotts are "radical". Et Tu, France? https://fr.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN27A0R3
My whole point is that we need to fully understand what's happening. Instead of being indignant and clutching our pearls, we need to understand what's happening, and the forces at play, and the pov of both sides, so we may be able to make a coherent argument to justify a Boycott
