The "One" groups keep telling me that the main roads need to be tackled first, but when the main roads are tackled, they maintain their noisy opposition. The point of the Streetspace programme was to get stuff done quickly, but we don't know if layouts will be kept long term 1/n https://twitter.com/OWandsworth/status/1319157461199343616
As far as this location goes, it is a new bus stop - there wasn't one there before. Because the layouts may not be kept, it's perhaps why a shelter wasn't installed - they cost several thousands of pounds each and need power connections for lighting. I'm not even sure that 2/n
The bus stop island is quite large enough for a shelter anyway. From the photograph, the layout looks good with the level crossing point being towards cycle traffic for people getting off the bus (and who may not know it's floating). The bus stop flag is white with a red 3/n
TfL logo which means it's a compulsory stop which means the driver should be stopping there rather than being hailed (passengers may not know the difference of course). Anyway, it's an improvement for cycling and an improvement for buses which are two modes that people who 4/n
can't drive or don't drive might actually find helpful (the people clumsily listed in the graphic). As a father who pushed nippers around in buggies, floating bus stops are great because the bus gets tight into the kerb and the bus and stop heights are similar which makes it 5/n
easier to get on or off the vehicle. What's good for one group is often good for everyone else being the point of low floor buses and raised stop areas. Anyway, the reopening of the LTNs didn't solve the congestion problem, but at least people can use CS7 in some safety now 6/n
These "One" groups only want to maintain the high traffic status quo. They oppose LTNs and then anything done on main roads. Any ideas they do have are well in the long grass. Pandemic aside, we need radical change now. Bus stop location here 7/7 https://goo.gl/maps/aqYLovdBoKWDwxeV6
