Who is Saalumarada Thimmakka???

#SaalumaradaThimmakka is an Indian environmentalist from #Karnataka, noted for her work in planting & tending to 385 banyan trees along a 4 km. stretch of highway between Hulikal and Kudur.

she has also planted nearly 8000 other trees.. (1/4)

she received no formal education & worked as a casual labourer.
she was married to Chikkaiah, the couple could not have children.

It is said that Thimmakka started to plant banyan trees in lieu of children. (2/4)

the name "Saalumarada" means row of trees in the #Kannada language & this how she was referred to because of her work..
