“Race, Reform and Retrenchment...” by Kimberly Crenshaw, one of the thought leaders for Critical Race Theory, is a good example of why CRT is so divisive and dangerous. In this thread I want to talk about her disdain for poor whites.
To start, Crenshaw believes that The system is rigged by white elites to hold down not only blacks, but also poor whites.
Crenshaw believes that poor whites go along with this broken system because they are comforted by a feeling of racial superiority. They’re OK being at the bottom so long as they get to tell themselves at least they’re better than the blacks.
In Crenshaw’s interpretation poor whites are at the bottom of the intellectual food chain. blacks can blame their bad circumstances on past oppression, but poor whites have no excuse for their failures. They are petty, stupid & not responsible for w/e little success they do have.
Here Crenshaw again goes after the idea of meritocracy & says that whites cling to the current system of capitalism & free markets because to abandon it would be to admit that they didn’t earn anything they have. The evil, bigoted whites are too fragile to accept racial equality.
Throughout her essay Kimberly Crenshaw paints poor whites as pawns of a corrupt system that is set up to benefit white elites. It is only their wicked hearts, simple minds and fragile egos that make them unwitting enforcers of the “financial despotism” that is America.
I speak bluntly & certainly Crenshaw’s argument is a tad more nuanced than how I present it in this thread, but this is in essence what she is saying. when we look at how the Progressive media treats conservatives we see the same sort of assumptions & disdain.
