Do you even understand what Bush era high school was like? Teacher talks about Franz Ferdinand & students yell "Take Me Out!" Lil' Jon impressions. Crunk music at school dances. The ascent of hipster culture. Green Day anarchism. Most pressing matter of the day: flag burnings
I was in middle school when a classmate wrote an short essay about the righteous necessity of invading Iraq to "get them back for 9/11." He read this aloud in class. We were like fucking 12. I'm glad my dad was firmly antiwar, a prime time Bush hater, & Howard Zinn fan.
I learned about 2000 election updates & Bush coup from the Amanda Bynes show. We talked about this in a 4th grade class. Do you get what Im getting at here? I've plugged into all this shit intensely for over 20 years. It feels exhausting & I'm still not 30 yet. Get it?
This is a message to zoomers, you don't have a fucking excuse to call ignorance for the 08 -14 era. You should remember & if you dont you have access to more info than we did in 2000. Learn that when the first regimes fell, we in the west cheered immensely.
They were getting back at the CIA torture regimes of which Libya, Syria, Egypt, & Iran participated in. This happened simultaneously with anti-austerity protests in Europe, & manifest as OWS in the US. It was the Square Era. And it felt like a global revolution, it was inspiring
We did internationalism before, we fucked back on a global scale acting as a loose international network. It felt like we could topple whole thing. Unfortunately, the counter-rev happened. Thats what the second half of the 2010s was all about. We're still living thru that moment.
So yeah, maybe theres some lack of historical transfer or something. Idk wtf schools are like now with all their smartboard techie tech smartshit. Got robot teachers or w/e the fuck now. All i know is that you should learn what happened before, how we got here. A long descent
