My parents, together with their "senior" friends, planned to meet at a restaurant for lunch this week. My brothers & I immediately launched a multi-pronged intervention: me & younger bro sent our parents viber msgs to tell them not to go while bunso talked to them in person.
They said pwede na daw silang lumabas. There was this thinking that just because the government lifted restrictions, it's SAFER. And siblings and I were all "NO, IT'S NOT LESS RISKY! COVID-19 IS STILL HERE AND YOU CAN STILL GET SICK!"
I had to send links to studies about how restaurants are COVID hotspots. We had to explain that if they get sick, we might not be able to afford their hospitalization and that there might be hospitals who can't accept more COVID cases.
It's unfortunate but I know my parents and their friends aren't the only people who think it's ok to go outside because the government said so. Sana lang pag nagkasakit tayo, sagot ng mga nag-lift ng restrictions yung pagpapagamot natin.
