Years ago I was in New York with @janiehaddad & we met @Buddycomic for dinner in Manhattan. Dinner ended on the early side & we discussed what to do next. We saw that there was a play within walking distance from us. One act, no intermission. We went & the okay was very good!
After the play we were chatting on the street. One of the actors walked out of the theatre. He had a huge part in the play. We buttonholed him and told him how good he was and how much we enjoyed his performance. He looked at us like we were lunatics.
He was saying “thank you” and responding in the way you would in response to what we were saying, but his face looked confused and scared, like he was playing along with dangerous lunatics that he feared setting off with the wrong reaction.
It confused us to the point that we floated the idea that maybe he WASN’T the actor in the play we just saw? but of COURSE he was. Of course he was.
Anyway, whenever we see him on TV I yell, “Hey it’s our friend!” Which I just did because he just was.
