I came up with this Scrooge theory on April 14th. So, keep in mind, this was around the time of the first batch of season 3 episodes we got.
My Analysis for Scrooge’s Arc
In “Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchucks”, we’re introduced to one of Scrooge’s flaws that we haven’t really seen before in the show:
He enforces his idea of adventure, and what an adventure is supposed to be like, upon his family members.
In the first episode of season 3, he makes this mistake without realizing that he’s doing it. And that happens because this kind of adventure is what he knows best.
He has spent many years of his life striving to achieve success. And those epic adventures that he had in the past, they're the ones that he likes and that he misses.
So, unknowingly, Scrooge is making the same mistake that many parental figures make. Wanting their kids to be just like them.
And this is where his legacy comes into play.
This is my favorite thing about Scrooge in the DuckTales reboot!! I find it inspiring that he has so much pride and confidence. And it’s very interesting how he says this line, "I'm Scrooge McDuck!!", and he uses this line to give himself an extra boost of confidence. #DuckTales
This paragraph makes me SO HYPED for these specific episodes in season 3!! This is a Scrooge thing that I’m VERY excited about. There's so much anticipation. And throughout season 3, it’s gonna be very interesting to see Scrooge realize his flaws, and see how he deals with them.
Frank said that Scrooge’s biggest flaw is his overconfidence.
And here are my thoughts on this.
Scrooge has spent so many years believing that he can do anything because he’s Scrooge McDuck.
And now that he has his family back, it’s been such a long time that, he’s completely lost himself in his legacy and his image.
To expand on this idea, I have a theory for what might happen in a later Scrooge episode in season 3. First, let’s start with this particular hint.
Scrooge will wrangle with the notion that:
"The most important thing about Scrooge McDuck isn't being Scrooge McDuck."
I think they’re gonna slowly lead up to a later Scrooge episode where, he has an identity crisis, and he needs to rediscover who he really is.
To support this theory, here are a few hints from the other articles, which talk more about the kids.
Based on these hints, I believe the kids have a lot of expectations on them to follow in Scrooge’s footsteps. And they probably feel obligated to live up to Scrooge’s legacy, every time they go on an adventure. That’s a lot of pressure, and also a big weight for them to carry.
But before that happens, I think that, during these early adventures in season 3, Scrooge is gonna realize that he can’t do as much as he thought he could. And this is gonna hurt his pride.
It will be a huge blow to his self-esteem. And that’s when he’ll start to question himself and his identity.
“Wait, I didn’t accomplish that incredible feat because I’m Scrooge McDuck? How DID I do that? How did I do any of those great things that I accomplished in the past?”
And therefore, due to his identity crisis, Scrooge will have to go on an adventure (or journey of self-discovery) to find out who he really is.
Hypothetically speaking, this episode would be a big, in depth exploration into Scrooge, his past, and how he became who he is today.
It might even be epic in scale, like The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, but a more condensed, TV show sized story.
I also have an additional theory that this episode will involve time travel, where Scrooge goes to the past, in order to discover who he really is. And if this theory is correct, my headcanon might come true (and I will fangirl so much over this, if it really happens). 😄
So, overall, Scrooge will have an identity crisis. That's my theory. And this is my prediction and analysis for Scrooge's arc in season 3. To everyone who read my thread, thank you so much. I’m very excited for these upcoming episodes!! And I can’t wait to see more of Scrooge!!
