Utah gets ready to invoke crisis standard of care, triaging limited medical resources among growing number of patients.

As someone who has had to do this at patient bedsides in resource limited settings during an epidemic, it’s heartbreaking and horrendous. https://twitter.com/megtirrell/status/1320533879774740480
And like this article says with what’s going on in Utah- as health workers, it is the most heart breaking & traumatic thing in the world when the resource that’s been triaged is us: our attention, our time, because we keep pushing, keep spreading ourselves thinner.
I need people to understand what this means: a conscious decision is made btwn 2 people based on chances of survival. The person who doesn’t get the resource (drug, bed, care) could then live or die, not because they had to but because there weren’t even resources for go around.
A life ends because that person had the bad luck of getting sick when everyone else is also getting sick. THIS is the reason we can’t get health systems get overwhelmed. This is the reason it’s not good for so many people to get sick at the same time.
This isn’t happening because it’s unavoidable. We can decrease the suffering by individual choices, governmental responsibility. This is suffering is happening because there are those among us who would deny pandemic is happening than acknowledge that our actions can kill others.
