why you should read Phasma and Black Spire- a thread

very basic plot details ahead! still, if you want to go in completely knowing nothing, feel free to skip reading this thread!
let’s start with Phasma!
This book is framed within an interrogation, so it’s two stories rolled into one- the story of Vi and Cardinal alongside the story of Phasma’s past.

This book had my jaw literally drop several times. Each twist and turn was incredible. So many cool ideas rolled into one package. Plus, I will never stop thinking about those damn sand beetles.
central characters
Phasma: the infamous Captain of the First Order. We see her progress from leader of her Parnassos tribe, to the First Order poster child, every step of the way. A brutal warrior, she lets no obstacle get in her way.

Captain Cardinal:
Cardinal is another First Order captain, who took in a Resistance spy for a secret interrogation regarding Phasma. Phasma is his biggest rival. Everything he’s ever worked for, she ripped away, and Cardinal is ready for a change.

Vi Moradi:
Vi Moradi, General Organa’s top spy. Clever, an avid knitter, and an instant favorite of anyone who reads the book. She knows all about Phasma’s time on Parnassos- and must tell her story to survive (and, hopefully, make her escape).

The characters are all fully fleshed out and feel real. You can see their motivations, and that makes their interactions all the more interesting. Their growth throughout the book, along with the gripping plot, makes Phasma a must read for Star Wars fans.
Black Spire
Black Spire is set on Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, an Outer Rim planet full of interesting people of all backgrounds. (it’s also the setting of Galaxy’s Edge, which, as a huge theme park geek, I have to appreciate)

Black Spire is a continuation of Phasma, centering around characters from the previous book. Vi is sent to Batuu in order to get civilians and travelers to join the Resistance’s cause. Things start to get rough when the First Order receives word of her visit.
We meet a plethora of new characters, many of which tie into the theme park directly. Pook is one of my favorites. I love a good droid, and he adds so much to the dynamic! Plus, we get to see Vi in a motherly, leader role, which only made me love her even more.
Again, this book shook me to the core. I may have cried reading it. It happens.
It explores the characters’ past traumas affected them, and how they cope, which was amazing to see brought to the forefront of this novel.

The epilogue of Black Spire is one of the most exciting things I’ve ever read. I squealed. So much. It’s unbelievable.
Read this book. Even if you don’t care about the rest of it (which, I assure you, you certainly will), the epilogue makes it worth it.

Give these books a shot! The characters, the plot, the writing style, the universe- all of it together makes for a great reading experience.
(And I need more people to talk about them with!)
