If a place lke Taiwan or New Zealand puts human lives before capitalist profits and beats COVID, that's an enactment of SOCIALISTIC policies in an otherwise capitalist society. Which is a good thing for socialists because it concretely demonstrates that our ideas work in action.
In other words, no, the successes of New Zealand and Taiwan do not undermine socialism or make a case that capitalism can also handle a pandemic. The only countries to successfully manage COVID have done so by SERIOUSLY undermining and circumventing capitalism.
It is pretty tangible and clear now that there is no free market/liberal/fascist solution to a pandemic. The only solutions are rooted in SOCIALISTIC ideas and actions. If this is true for pandemics, and we can convince workers, it opens the door widely for the rest of our ideas.
