Tonight, while at my parent’s house for dinner, my mom pulled out a box for me to go through. In it were these #StarTrekTNG action figures. While holding them again, like Andy in Toy Story 3, I’m struck by the joy and happiness I feel. We had some great times together. 1/
You see, I’ve always been socially awkward. I hide it well sometimes, and sometimes I don’t, but I’ve always been a bit of a loner. But I’ve always been a storyteller. These toys were my players and I was their writer & director. 2/
I played with action figures far into my early teens. Some would say that’s too long, but I don’t care. I loved improvising suspenseful, action packed, and emotion filled adventures with these folks. 3/
This was a time when 90’s thrillers were big. Sleeping with the Enemy, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Single White Female. Those films were my jam, so I would recreate ridiculous stories like that with double crossing, romance, and an eventual death fall for the villain. 4/
Rediscovering these toys tonight reminded me of who I was then, but I really haven’t changed all that much. I’m still that same little nerd telling stories, but now I do it with real people and words on the page. 5/5
