The conclusive reason that the Lincoln Project is a grift is that it’s an organization with the stated purpose of convincing Republicans to vote Biden but only tailors its message to Democrats who are already voting Biden so they can get money from them. It’s a textbook grift!
This is a Lincoln Project billboard put up in Times Square. It was put up in a blue state to appeal to Democrats who would already vote Democrat so they can curry the favor of liberals who give them financial support. It’s insane that I even have to explain this.
If a venture does not fulfill/attempt to fulfill its stated mission (getting Republicans to vote Biden) and tailors its content solely to people who are already voting Biden to convince them that giving them money = more Republicans voting for Biden, that’s means it’s a grift.
The most telling aspect of it is that if you make fun of the Lincoln Project 100% of the people who defend them in one’s replies are, uh, Democrats, i.e. the exact opposite of who they’re ostensibly tailored to appeal to.
I’ve literally never seen anyone who voted Trump in 2016 but became a Biden voter because of the Lincoln Project (I’m being generously implying that people fitting this description exist) defend them. It always proves the point!
I've seen people who agree with my assessment of the Lincoln Project argue that, though the venture itself is a grift, the actual content produced by the Lincoln Project is of better quality than most campaign ads produced by Democratic candidates.
I don't really agree with this: While political advertisements do serve to energize a particular politicians' base of support in order to increase turnout, the primary purpose of their ads is to convince voters who may otherwise support a different candidate.
The Lincoln Project's "advertisement campaigns" do not fit this criterion because they are clearly not tailored to convince people who would otherwise vote Trump to vote Biden, despite the fact that doing so is organization's stated purpose.
Their advertisement campaigns also do not serve to energize turnout or whatever given that they're not even tailored to common Democratic voters who might sit out an election or whatever - Their content is tailored to mobilized liberals active on social media.
As such, I don't agree with the idea that their advertisements are better than most Dem. campaign spots? In terms of production quality, sure, I suppose, but that really is not the important metric here.
