Doing some work and listening to a podcast about Elizabeth Holmes and my goodness folks couldn& #39;t wait to call this lady brilliant and give her a bunch of money.
Also, this is ostensibly about tech culture and every single voice on this podcast is clearly a white person. These tech folks be disrupting everything but discrimination.
Hold up! This dude gave this lady a $13M personal loan, interest-free?!!? Listen, some folks live on an entirely different planet.
Man this podcast is wild. All these "smart" people with all the signifiers of success got swindled by a lady with a fake voice and faker product.
Meanwhile, actually brilliant black ladies all up and down the timeline gotta beg for RTs of their proven products because they aint got money for marketing cause banks wont even give them a small business loan.
and as @GeeDee215 would say #housingsegregationineverything applies in this instance when you think about all the startups that are mythologized as starting in garages. Or even folks using home equity as startup capital...well black folks have less access to that
and often its just the simple fact that blacks are black and their homes are just worth less. Andre Perry has done research and that homes in black neighborhoods are undervalued by $156B.
This thread is all over the place, but it makes sense in my head.
