In June 2019, a man named Bryan Wayne Galentine had an idea. He hoped Major League Baseball would create a Lou Gehrig Day on June 2 in which all players would wear No. 4 to honor his legacy and raise awareness for ALS, the disease that took Gehrig’s life and affects so many.
On Tuesday, the group he led, @LG4Day, found out major league teams were in favor of adopting his plan. On Wednesday, to celebrate, Bryan rifled through old baseball cards with his boys, Grayson, 15, and Bennett, 13. On Thursday, Bryan passed away from complications of ALS.
Bryan was a songwriter/singer from Nashville, a dad, an Orioles fan. He is you. He is me. And I’m hopeful that for him, his family, my friend @ChrisSnowCGY and so many others affected by ALS, MLB considers making @LG4Day a reality and continuing the fight against this disease.
