I repeat, progressing play and breaking lines is a fallacy created by hipsters on football Twitter. It's very overrated. Wijnaldum made 0 line breaking passes against Sheffield United last night and Klopp would've been delighted with his performance. https://twitter.com/EBL2017/status/1320493323916877825
Line breaking passes = high risk passes. If they get intercepted, the defence gets out and the offensive team loses control. Sustaining pressure, controlling football matches and giving your team the best possible chance of winning is what football is all about from a team POV.
What that boils down to is not asking your players to play impossible football. Liverpool epitomise this - kick it long when pressed, play out from the back where possible, pass the ball into space, play risk averse passes, are compact as hell & let their attackers do their thing
