i am begging academics to stop finding different ways to say "being a rich kid makes everything so easy"
i could stomach articles like these better if they were part of an ongoing effort to demonstrate the inherent immorality of generational wealth but it's just to make poor parents think "fuck i guess i need to buy more books"
everyone responding to this saying they could go to a library as a poor kid is missing the point of this, which is not that poor children aren't allowed to read in public spaces but that children with access to private libraries are gifted an early, easy advantage
poverty means you have to work harder to achieve similar results and yeah it is definitely possible to do that work that's the whole bill of goods that capitalism sells people across this country to keep the higher education industry afloat
i cannot believe i had to say all this on a tweet that said "growing up rich sure makes things easy," which should not at all be a controversial statement about anything, but especially not about learned skills
oh i posted the same thing twice in that images bit. here's what one of them should have been. see how unprepared i am for this bullshit? stop treating me like a TA please
i am going to keep getting people saying "i was poor and i read soooo many books" and as a fellow poor who did the same i am begging them to put those skills to use reading the rest of this thread before writing the same goddamn thing as their peers
