Unpopular/popular opinions:
- Ethereum will ride massively on the "it's an environmental crypto that doesn't waste as much electricity as a country the size of Ireland"-meme. True or not, no amount of education is going to stop this, regardless of how ETH2 really progresses.
- In the end, "privacy coins" just aren't going to be that big of a deal. Other coins will get so far ahead, and later include privacy as a feature. They also work poorly as SoVs because there's always better priv-coins on the horizon. Private dollar synthetics > privacy coins.
- Lightning may not become a huge deal any time soon in P2P payments because the transactional demand for payments is still so small for an asset people want to keep as their hodl-investment. Layer 2s that excel in transfering stablecoins will have massive adoption though.
- Privacy dollars are not that far off from replacing cryptocurrencies on darknet markets. Those users may actually really enjoy the non-KYC environment of DeFi to gain yields on their illicit drug money profits.
- The regulatory pressure is going to accelerate around Ethereum as a result of the above. Regulators' usual fear for bitcoin will move to Ethereum. Many dapps will face severe problems. It's going to wash out a lot of things that aren't really decentralized. It's a good thing.
- XRP and BCH are just dying atm and are going to keep dying even more at this rate. Even BSV has a better change of persisting because they have more fanatical lunatics on their team... they may the slowest to purge.
- This is an old take which is obvious now, but you didn't believe it the last time I posted it; Ethereum L2s are happening, and their UXs are in certain ways pretty phenomenal. They're not vaporware and they'll get real traction faster than LN.
- DeFi isn't dead, dying or a scam. Certain elements of DeFi is dead, dying or a scam but the underlying fundamental concept is going to keep progressing.
- ETH is pumping this year, but more like a tech stock; BTC is so far ahead in its maturation as an asset class investor-sentiment-wise, where ETH often doesn't even register as an alternative. ETH has so much longer to go than some of you are willing to admit.
