People never talk about how irritating it is when someone in your life becomes “religious”. And so, today, I will.
A person you once knew suddenly becomes an entirely different person and not in a good way. You see, when formerly in-name-only Christians really “find the Holy Spirit” they become shells of who they once were, fully immersed into the sheep-dom that is biblical Christianity.
The things you used to do together before are suddenly taboo. And the worst part is they’re very loud about it. Always. It suffocates you, filling every space. Their personalities die. I’ve never met a devout Christian with a personality outside of their faith. It’s sad.
They suddenly can’t listen to regular music anymore and because they’re filled with a sense of righteousness they play music anyway, the new kind that they’re supposed to listen to and you have to listen to it too. You can’t say anything because finding the lord is supposed to be
a good thing. If you’re unlucky they also become super judgemental or maybe they start to hang out with their fellow brothers and sisters who worsen the situation (telling them not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers and so)
This may sound selfish to you. And it’s okay to think that but I know everyone who’s been in a similar situation totally gets it. It’s a literal fear when you have Christian friends; the fear that they don’t suddenly decide to join some random cult-like fellowship that sucks the-
-life out of them (this is a sub for certain university fellowships; a story for another day)
The fear that they don’t suddenly think you’re too sinful for them and shed you off like old skin.
Religion does things to people. Changes them. And usually, not for good.
