Based on current data, we'll have to process 1 voter every 3 minutes in my Philadelphia precinct for the 11 hours polls are open. If you're voting in Philly (or probably anywhere) on Election Day, be prepared for LONG LINES...a thread:
There are 7 candidates and 4 ballot questions. I'm guessing that most people will take just 1-2 mins filling out the ballot. More time if you're not familiar with what's on the ballot and the question wording.
Add in checking in, that's another minute. Add in an ADA device, voting assistance, or any other change to help a voter, that's another 1-2 minutes. We're already at 3 minutes, likely over.
Add people trying to void their mail-in ballots, probably 2 mins. People who need a provisional ballot, that's like 5 mins. Now add in any hiccup like machine going down, poll watchers not following the law, or a poll worker on lunch break.
Don't forget to sanitize pens, try to hear people with masks on from 6ft away, and maintaining all Covid protocols. Yeah, one voter every three minutes is... unlikely.
So what can YOU do? VOTE NOW. In PA, you have UNTIL TUESDAY, 10/27 if you haven't already requested a ballot yet. And if you have, just go NOW anyway. Save the lines. Long lines=disenfranchisement.
For those wondering, I'm in a high turnout division with high mail-in requests and returns. I'm assuming a 60% turnout (which is probably a low guess) and assuming that no more ballots will be returned (so PLEASE RETURN THEM).
