For my #LookCloser6 for #CLST6 I took a virtual tour of the Greek and Roman exhibit in the British Museum. There were many fascinating artifacts and the layout of the exhibit brings the artifacts to life in a clear and cohesive way. First, let's look at some different categories.
This room of the exhibit is broken into different sections. Some of these sections include musical artifacts, household artifacts, war artifacts, and religious artifacts. By using these categories the onlooker can compare familiar objects with these ancient artifacts.
One section that resonated with me particularly was the musical instruments section. Having both depictions of people playing the instruments, as well as the instruments themselves is helpful in painting a full image of their musical lives.
Another section I found particular interest is the burial customs section. As we read about in the textbook, there are many unique and interesting traditions associated with ancient Roman culture. Here they use the artifacts to help tell the full story of these customs.
