When we see @FineGael engage in this type of rhetoric, we see a worried party with weak policies. This is a distraction mechanism to keep us from critiquing FG social policy that has caused the people of Ireland decades of trauma & relentless poverty. https://twitter.com/FineGael/status/1320288995876614144
In 1975 local authorities built 8,794 social houses.
In 2005 local authorities built 5,559 social houses
In 2015 local authorities built 75 social houses
Rebuilding Ireland’s primary aim is to source 85% of housing through the private rental sector. Therefore, profit-seeking investors / landlords determine delivery and supply.
Child homelessness in Ireland has increased by 400% between 2014 – 2020.

Female homelessness in Ireland has increased by 184%

The average median of female homelessness across Europe is 20- 30%, however, it is at 42% in Ireland (Mayock & Bretherton, 2017).
2/3 of homeless families in Ireland are headed by single mothers who became homeless due to economic evictions from the private rental sector (Focus Ireland, 2020).
In 2019, The European Commission and professor of sociology Mary Daly reviewed Irelands homelessness and housing strategy and accused @FineGael of ‘statistical obfuscation’ (manipulating the figures) via HAP and RAS tenancies.
Daly found that due to a lack of accurate statistics, @FineGael cannot fully understand or resolve the homeless or housing crisis. This is a choice and dare I say the ideology of @FineGael #neoliberalism
I got my mortgage when I was 23. I was single & borrowed the bare minimum. The banks hounded me to borrow extra. I was offered €40k extra to furnish. I declined & bought 2nd hand furniture. Thankfully I recognised that I could not afford it.
I got my mortgage with the ACC who went on to sell my debt to a vulture fund. From the day I got my mortgage I never missed a payment, but I was considered a high-risk customer. My interest rates soared and at one stage reached over 6.5%.
At one stage I was paying almost €2000 extra in interest per annum. Please keep in mind my mortgage was tiny and less than €100 k. This I can live with.
What I can’t live with is the heart-breaking reality of my friend who took his life the same week the banks came to repossess his home.

My friend never missed a day at work. He was what @LeoVaradkar calls one of the ‘people who get up early in the morning’
@FineGael turned us into a nation who believed that balance sheets and property are valued above the lives and the well-being of the nation.
@FineGael is not and never will be the party of the working ‘MAN’,‘WOMAN’ or CHILD for that matter.

That is the full story and the only story we should be concerned with.
@FineGael are not transparent in how they sacrificed working class people to the banks and vulture funds.

@FineGael gas light us as a nation into believing they did nothing wrong and we should blame @sinnfeinireland for the failures of acting governments
Where were you @LeoVaradkar @FineGael when my friend sacrificed his life to avoid becoming homeless?

You are not the party of the poor. You shamed and stigmatised us into thinking it was our fault.
We didn’t get up early enough in the morning? People couldn’t sleep without sedatives and @FineGael did that, not @sinnfeinireland
I apologise for such an angry thread but please I implore you, stop voting @FineGael & @fiannafailparty . They do not represent the needs of working-class people.

They refuse to be held accountable for the damage and trauma they have inflicted upon us
