Friends, many of you have contacted me about today's article regarding violent threats against me and my fellow candidates. A person with a violent history, who spent time in prison, sent me an email stating that he "hoped I get shot." https://bit.ly/2HwfpaX
I tried to file a restraining order, but was denied because I did not have any "direct evidence" of a threat. At the same time @WisconsinMC paid for a mailing, on behalf of @wisgop and my opponent, sending out my *personal* cell phone number.
They did not use the campaign phone number on my web site, but a number they had to research to find. To be clear, threats against candidates are increasing because we have a president condoning violence in his tweets and a Republican party enabling him.
My opponent has said nothing, and he refused to speak to the Journal-Sentinel for this article. I hope he, @WisconsinMC, and the @wisgop will think long and hard about their campaign tactics. Putting candidates at risk is not a strategy -- it's shameful.
